The most important milestone of his young career. At 21, Qinwen Zheng is only one step away from a first Grand Slam title. The 12th player in the world enforced the hierarchy in the semi-finals, defeating the Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska on Thursday January 25. A victory in two sets (6-4, 6-4), but no less close, which will allow her to battle in the final with Aryna Sabalenka on Saturday.

However, the Chinese player started the match by losing her faceoff at 0-2. But, she then won six of the next eight games in this first round, against an opponent who was bothered by her abdominals, to the point of resorting to the intervention of the physiotherapist. Which didn’t completely take Dayana Yastremska out of the match. A real standoff began at the heart of the second act from 2-1 to 4-3 in favor of Zheng, whose concentration was not disrupted by the Ukrainian’s break at 2-2, and who ended up folding the affair in 1h42 of match.
