Psychological harassment complaints withdrawn: MP Frédéric Beauchemin rejoins the Liberal caucus

The complaints of psychological harassment against him having been withdrawn, MP Frédéric Beauchemin immediately rejoined the Liberal caucus on Friday.

At the end of a mediation process, an amicable settlement was reached concerning the allegations of psychological harassment against the member for Marguerite-Bourgeoys. “By mutual agreement” of the parties involved, the complaints filed with the National Assembly and the Liberal Party of Quebec by the president of the PLQ Youth Commission against Frédéric Beauchemin and three of his employees were dropped.

At the beginning of October, the MP was excluded from the Liberal caucus following these procedures. Liberal MPs held a virtual meeting on Friday and decided to bring Frédéric Beauchemin back to their team. He resumes his files as spokesperson for Economy, Finance and Innovation for the official opposition.

Our Parliamentary Office revealed in October that the member for Marguerite-Bourgeoys, the only aspiring candidate for the Liberal leadership, and three of his political employees were targeted by a complaint for psychological harassment.

The complainant, Élyse Moisan, who is president of the Young Liberals and a parliamentary researcher for the official opposition, claimed to have “come to tears” after a meeting with the elected official.

In the document submitted to the National Assembly and the PLQ, she claimed to have felt “harassed, intimidated and threatened” during a meeting with the three employees of the office of the member for Marguerite-Bourgeoys a few days later. They would have “demanded” his immediate resignation, “otherwise they would take the necessary means” to achieve his departure.

“I have been the victim, on several occasions, of psychological harassment from these people. MP Frédéric Beauchemin is aware of this situation and he has taken no action to stop this behavior, thus creating a work environment conducive to situations of psychological harassment,” the complaint stated.

Beauchemin “happy” to turn the page

Five members of the PLQ youth executive, including the three young people targeted by the request, for their part questioned the leadership of their new president, elected in September. Frédéric Beauchemin had always proclaimed his innocence and said he was convinced that the complaint was “unfounded” and that it would not be upheld.

Neither the member for Marguerite-Bourgeoys nor the complainant responded to our calls.

The main person concerned limited himself to a brief reaction on social networks. “I am happy that this situation can finally be behind us, especially for the young people involved. Looking forward to seeing my colleagues again,” he tweeted, on X.
