Lionel Messi, who left for two days in Saudi Arabia to promote tourism in the country, without the agreement of Paris Saint-Germain, will be subject to disciplinary proceedings by the Parisian club, learned franceinfo:sport, Tuesday May 2. After the Parisians’ defeat against Lorient (1-3) on Sunday, the players were expected to train on Monday morning, but Lionel Messi was seen at Riyadh airport. No sanction or suspension period has yet been formalized, while the Parisians play Sunday in Troyes.

Ambassador of tourism in Saudi Arabia, Lionel Messi had published an Instagram post on Saturday in which he praised the greenery of the country: “Who thought Saudi Arabia had so much greenery? I like to explore its unexpected wonders whenever I can.” Despite a statistically successful season (20 goals and 19 assists in 37 games), his trip to the Gulf country should not improve his image with Parisian supporters, while his contract with PSG expires in June.
