Protesters and tourists share the street in Quebec

Dozens of heavy goods vehicles came to swell the Quebec anti-sanitary measures convoy on Saturday, while tourists continued to gather, close by, to visit Bonhomme’s palace at the Carnival.

“We are here for the freedom of our children!” At the end of the morning, and under close police surveillance, a line of protesters with multiple causes took over the Parliament Hill area on foot. Against the vaccine passport, for “free choice”, “freedom or against the CAQ bill aimed at reforming the Department of Youth Protection: the demonstrators covered with flags of Quebec, Canada, Acadia or the United States had in common a desire to make noise.

At around 10 a.m. on Saturday, horns started bouncing through the narrow streets of the capital’s upper town. On René-Lévesque Boulevard, officers from the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) were trying to ensure smooth traffic. “The SPVQ is in communication with the organizers,” assured communications sergeant David Poitras in a statement sent earlier today.

With a hoarse voice, a Quebec flag on his shoulder, Bruno Cossette said he was ready to stay “as long as it takes”. We must drop all sanitary measures, he shouted. “They humiliate the unvaccinated,” added the man, who claims to have his two doses of vaccine.

On the other side of the Fontaine de Tourny, families and tourists were waiting their turn to visit the facilities of the Quebec Carnival, which began on Friday. “We weren’t going to let this event spoil our plans,” dropped Matana Skoie, who came to the Old Capital to enjoy the winter festivities.

Further details will follow.
