Music can be a vector of emancipation for young people. In Nice, the conservatory musicians work in disadvantaged schools and colleges, places where children generally do not have access to this type of culture.
It’s an incredible challenge for these CE2 students and for their teacher in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). They have three years to form a real orchestra, and for the best of them, perhaps enter the conservatory. Often judged to be elitist, theatre, opera or classical music have difficulty in attracting neighborhoods popular. The students were able to choose their instrument and were won over. “All the notes there are beautiful”, notes a student.
Their dream? Join the conservatory
Five teachers from the conservatory, all volunteers, embarked on the adventure. “They value themselves and say to themselves: ‘thanks to music, I have something very good in me’”explains Jean-Marc Baccarinisaxophone and jazz teacher. For the most motivated, rehearsals also take place at home. Music exercises have become the daily life of the family Hamila. “Maybe he will one day be a great musician”, comments the mother. Their dream is now to integrate the conservant.
