Pro-Palestinian Protests | Columbia University President Resigns

(New York) Columbia University President Minouche Shafik is resigning over her controversial handling of pro-Palestinian protests on her campus last spring.

Last May, a group of professors from the American university expressed their lack of confidence in Minouche Shafik after she twice asked the New York police to intervene on campus to dislodge the demonstrators.

Professors accused him of violating students’ rights and academic freedom by handling the protests in this way.

In this context, the university president announced by email on Wednesday that she was resigning immediately.

Minouche Shafik had been in office for a few months at the time of the events of October 7. Long months of protests on the Columbia campus followed, then a US Congressional investigation into “Columbia’s failure to protect Jewish students.”
