Beyfortus has been available in pharmacies since Monday, August 26. A victim of its own success, this treatment against bronchiolitis was only available in maternity wards last year.
Parents are eagerly awaiting Beyfortus, a preventive treatment against severe forms of bronchiolitis. It is administered by injection to children under one year old who have not yet come into contact with the virus. The aim of prevention is to stimulate their immunity. Last year, the treatment was mainly available in maternity wards and prevented a large number of hospitalizations.
From Monday, August 26, pediatricians will be able to prescribe it to their patients, who will be able to obtain it in pharmacies. “It is not a vaccine, these are synthetic antibodies that are injected into infants. He will be passively protected for a few months to allow him to calmly build up his immunity.”explains pediatrician Julie Sudant. Last winter, the treatment was almost impossible to find in pharmacies. Now, pharmacies should receive Beyfortus. The pharmaceutical group Sanofi, which developed the treatment, must deliver 600,000 doses to France, twice as many as the previous season.
