(Ottawa) United States President Joe Biden will make his first official visit to Canada since taking office on March 23-24.
The official visit of the American president has been confirmed by the White House and by the office of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The wife of the American president, Jill Biden, will be part of the delegation.
During his two-day visit, Mr. Bien will deliver a speech to Parliament. Many issues are on the agenda, including trade ties, the war in Ukraine, the modernization of NORAD and the defense of the North American continent, as well as the crisis shaking Haiti.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has promised to address the issue of Roxham Road, Quebec, during the visit of the American president. It is through this route that thousands of migrants pass each year after having crossed the Canada-US border in an irregular manner to claim asylum status in Canada. The Quebec government has been calling for the closure of Roxham Road for several months.
“Canada and the United States are allies, neighbors and, above all, friends. In the face of global uncertainty, we will continue to work together to defend our continent and our shared values, to create more opportunities for people and businesses on both sides of the border, and to build strong economies as reliable suppliers as we move towards a carbon neutral world. I look forward to welcoming President Biden to Canada,” Justin Trudeau said in a press release.
