During his visit to Marseille organized on September 23, Pope Francis will celebrate a great mass open to the public in the mythical Stade Vélodrome, in the heart of the second city of France, announced the diocese of the Marseille city in a press release released on Friday 2 June, confirming information from the regional daily Provence.
“Mass will be held on September 23 at 4:45 p.m. at the Vélodrome”which can accommodate more than 67,000 people, the diocese said. “When the Pope celebrates Mass at the Vélodrome stadium, a place that brings together Marseille in all its diversity, it will be as if he were going to the home of every Marseillais”greeted Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline, Archbishop of Marseilles. The mayor of the city, Benoît Payan, assured him that it was “an honor” to welcome the sovereign pontiff to Marseilles.
