(Ottawa) Federal Liberals and Conservatives flaunt their aggressive election fundraising efforts, each brandishing their third quarter results.
The Liberals say more than 57,100 contributors contributed $ 7.65 million in the months of July and September. The party claims that the two data constitute a record for the political formation.
The Conservatives say the $ 9.84 million they raised from nearly 50,200 backers in the last quarter is also a fundraising record, excluding quarters close to an election date. The month of August alone saw the party raise 5.1 million, a record month.
The federal election campaign began on August 15 and ended on September 20 – election day – and all major parties stepped up their fundraising efforts as they sought to convince Canadians and increase their incomes to to spend on advertising and on the reach of their message.
National party director Azam Ishmael pointed out that the median party donation was $ 20, suggesting stronger grassroots support.
“Annual reports show that the Conservatives spent $ 40.6 million on fundraising costs from 2016 to 2020, while in the Liberal Party this figure was only $ 15 million,” the party said in a statement sent. Friday, adding that supporters of the Red team “get a lot more value from their donations.”

The Liberals raised $ 7.28 million in the third quarter of 2019 ahead of that year’s election and $ 3.11 million in the same period last year.
The Conservatives took in 10.14 million in the third quarter of 2019 and 5.66 million a year later.
