Two Israeli tourists and their Egyptian guide were killed on Sunday October 8 by a police officer in Alexandria, on the Egyptian coast. This attack comes in the middle of a war between Egypt’s two neighbors, Israel and Gaza under the control of Palestinian Hamas. According to Extra news television, close to the Egyptian security apparatus, “a police officer fired his personal weapon blindly at a group of Israeli tourists in Alexandria (north)”.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry immediately confirmed. “This morning, during a visit of a group of Israeli tourists to Alexandria, an Egyptian opened fire killing two Israelis and their Egyptian guide”he reported, adding “that another Israeli had been injured”.

The ministry now says it is working to repatriate the rest of the group of tourists, while many Israelis regularly go to Egypt, particularly on the occasion of Jewish religious holidays, such as Sukkot, celebrated in early October. Egypt, the essential mediator in each new outbreak of violence between Israel and the Gaza Strip, has not yet officially reacted to the attack against the tourists.
