Bronchiolitis is making a comeback in France and affects many infants. As a result, many physiotherapists are overwhelmed.

Infants have been piling up in physiotherapist offices for several weeks due to bronchiolitis, a viral disease that attacks babies’ bronchi. Infants must have physical pressure on the chest in order to free their bronchial tubes. Technical and precise gestures, which are repeated more and more often in specialist offices. “For two months now, I have 20, 25 children a day“, says Sandrine Pourvoyeur, physiotherapist.

According to the practitioner, the epidemic would be several weeks ahead, which would explain the high influx in this month of November in medical centers, as well as in hospitals. In France, nearly 1,400 young children had to be hospitalized because of the viral infection during the week of November 8. The fact of having been strongly protected from viruses in 2020 made them more fragile. To avoid contamination, barrier gestures remain a priority.
