Pay de Limón was allegedly a victim of the Zetas cartel in the state of Zacatecas (central-north) about fifteen years ago. In his misfortune, the dog, who had both front legs cut off, was able to benefit from leather prostheses made in the United States, in Virginia.

Among the other residents of the refuge, there is Fresa, the victim of an ax blow which shattered her muzzle. The animal benefited from the first reconstructive surgery for dogs ever performed in the world, with nasal turbinates and implants, says Patricia Ruiz.
