They were added at the last moment on an already very attractive poster. The Libertines, the British rock band led by Pete Doherty, will be opening the Check-In Party festival on Friday August 19 in Guéret, Creuse.
It all starts with a cancellation: that of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. The Australian band have been forced to cancel their European tour, following vocalist Stu Mackenzie’s health issues. At short notice, The Libertines replaced the Australians. “We had a bit of luck, a nice alignment of the planets. In our misfortune, it was a godsendrejoices Sébastien Chevrier, co-director of the Check-In Party. You can see it in the box office.”
The Creuse festival, which is only celebrating its second edition after the first in 2019, offers a very rock and English poster: Shame, Fontaines DC, Geese, Kevin Morby, Working Men’s Club rub shoulders with Fire! Chatterton, Last Train, The Liminanas or Mansfield.TYA. The Libertines, themselves, have reserved their second French concert of the year only in Guéret, after the Motocultor Festival the day before. They will also pass through Paris on October 24, for a unique concert at the Zénith.
For the co-director of the Check-In Party, the punk rock band was seduced by the poster and the philosophy of the festival with its eclectic programme: “It’s the slightly dissonant side of artists who defend a different relationship with the public, who have made live their development strategy and of whom the Libertines are considered to be a bit like parents.” Pete Doherty, leader of the group, now lives on the heights of Etretat. From Normandy, the former smoking rock star says he has turned his back on scandals and excesses.
