Peru | Archaeologists unearth thousand-year-old child mummies

Peruvian archaeologists have discovered six Pre-Inca child mummies, dating from 800 to 1,000 AD, which were buried, apparently in sacrifice, next to an elite figure at the Cajamarquilla site, in the suburbs of Lima.

Alongside the mummies of the six children, they also found the skeletal remains of seven adults who, unlike the children, were not wrapped in backpacks.

This discovery brings to 14 the total number of remains that researchers at the University of San Marcos have unearthed since November 2021.
