On Monday, September 12, the Pensions Orientation Council, the COR, revealed a plan surplus of 3.2 billion for this year, but a return to the deficit in 2023. For Emmanuel Macron, this justifies the need to reform pensions.
On retirement, Emmanuel Macron does not intend to back down. The French will have tothey work until they are 64 or 65? An SME from Château-Thierry (Aisne) which produces aluminum parts has about thirty employees. In the workshop, there is noise, pieces to be worn all day long. For workers, there is no question of staying until age 65. “At the age of 65, what do you have for health”asks one of them. “I don’t feel capable, but afterwards, it may depend on the trades too”says a worker.
In corporate offices, the answer is different. “It seems more likely to me being in an office than being my colleagues down in the workshop”says a young man. “Everyone has to play their part of the game for the system to work well”thinks an employee. The latest forecasts from the Pensions Orientation Council indicate that the system would be in deficit and losing money until around 2040. “The system will be in deficit for 25 years and therefore we cannot leave the bill to future generations, it would be irresponsible”believes Mark FerracciRenaissance deputy for French people living abroad. Emmanuel Macron wants the retirement to be implemented next summer.
