The peace summit called, on Sunday June 16, to respect the “sovereignty”, “independence” and “territorial integrity” of Ukraine. A message welcomed by President Volodymyr Zelensky, notwithstanding Russia’s absence.
End the war in Ukraine. This is the objective of the peace summit, meeting on Saturday June 15 and Sunday June 16 in Switzerland. In their final declaration, the signatory nations called for respect for the “sovereignty”of “independence” and of “territorial integrity” of Ukraine. Despite Russia’s absence, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed this message. “We have to do our job, let’s not think about Russia”he indicated.
The head of state also hammered home kyiv’s conditions for opening negotiations with Moscow. “Russia can start negotiations tomorrow (…) if it leaves our legal territories. This is a simple respect for the charter of the United Nations.” For the signatories of the final declaration, the path towards peace must include Russia. For its part, the Kremlin is still demanding a surrender from Ukraine.
