This Java titled “Paris Jadis” is multi-faceted. First the performers, the actors Jean Rochefort and Jean Pierre Marielle, then the composer, the talented Philippe Sarde, then the author, the brilliant poet Jean Roger Caussimon; and finally the sponsor Bertrand Tavernier, very happy to have brought together so much talent for the generic song of his film “Spoiled Children”.
If Bertrand Tavernier likes this song “Paris Jadis”, he is rather disappointed by his own film “Des enfants gâtés”. “Paris Jadis” was recorded in one take in 1977 the year the Tavernier film was released, starring Michel Piccoli, Michel Aumont and Christine Pascal.
Marielle and Rochefort are not part of the distribution, they are there only to perform the song and it really looks like they’ve been doing this all their lives. But with actors of this class, talent knows no bounds.
The composer Philippe Sarde must feel very lonely, Marielle, Rochefort, Caussimon, Tavernier have all gone to the “Cinema Paradiso”. There remains this romance, as beautiful as a neo-realist song, where once in the streets of Paris, the nostalgic accordion sowed lots of music.
