A prestigious success. Paris FC took on Real Madrid on Thursday, December 14, to sign the first victory in its history in the Champions League (2-1). Sandrine Soubeyrand’s players built their victory by relying on a perfect start to the match. They got off to a flying start, leading 2-0 after just five minutes of play. Found behind the defense, Julie Dufour first opened the scoring by getting the better of Ivana Andres (4th). The Parisiennes barely had time to celebrate this first early goal when they made the break thanks to the eternal Gaëtane Thiney, receiving a deflected cross from Mathilde Bourdieu (6th).
Behind, they fought hard to defend their advantage in the score. Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie saved a penalty taken by the Spanish scorer in the last World Cup final, Olga Carmona (28th). The pressure increased after returning from the locker room. After a miss from Hayley Raso (50th), Caroline Moller reduced the score by victoriously taking a cross to the far post (53rd). But, the Merengues failed to score a second goal.
After two defeats to start its group stage, the PFC scored its first points and overtook Real Madrid (only 1 point). We found at times this team capable of the best against the big names, like its memorable qualifiers two months ago, during which it eliminated Arsenal and Wolfsburg.
