Unfortunately, the wife of the former King of the Belgians Albert II finds herself with a fracture of the neck of the humerusat the shoulder.
“Following a fall, Her Majesty Queen Paola fractured her right humeral neck and must respect a recovery period of eight weeks“, it was announced Thursday. The 84-year-old queen “is therefore forced to cancel the official activities she had planned for the coming weeks”. Paola’s last appearance dates back to February 17, in Laeken, when she attended the annual mass commemorating the deceased members of the Belgian royal family. We were then treated to a rare family reunion. Delphine de Saxe-Cobourg, the daughter born out of wedlock to Albert II recognized as princess a year ago, was even there.
Queen Paola was recently highlighted on Belgian television: a rare documentary dedicated to her was broadcast on RTBF on February 18. In this program called Paola, garden sidethe former queen confided with an open heart on her extraordinary career, that of an Italian aristocrat who became Queen of the Belgians in 1993. With frankness, Paola evoked the ups and downs of her marriage with Albert II, including her own extramarital affair with a French journalist.
After being on the verge of divorce, the couple finally reunited. He now enjoys a busy family life with children and grandchildren. Also present in the documentary, King Philippe testified: “I am proud and really happy to see my parents united. Reconciliation and forgiveness is the most difficult but the greatest.”
