(OTTAWA) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has agreed to allow an executive order imposing COVID-19 vaccination requirements at the Canadian border to expire on September 30.

The news was confirmed by two senior government sources, who spoke to The Canadian Press on the condition that they not be named, as they were not authorized to speak publicly.
The federal government has not yet made a decision on the obligation for passengers to wear a mask on trains and planes.
The rules on wearing a mask on planes and trains are not contained in the same order and will be discussed separately.
The federal cabinet meets Thursday afternoon, but cabinet approval is not required to allow the order to expire, as the version agreed to in June called for it to expire on September 30.
The order which expires at the end of the month also affects mandatory and random testing for international travellers.
In a scrum, Innovation, Science and Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne did not confirm the lifting of border restrictions, saying it is “always good to look at the measures to make it easier for travelers.
“I think it has to be fluid, you have to go with the times. And the easier we can make it for travelers, so much the better, while obviously respecting public health measures, ”said Mr. Champagne.
“I think people want to travel more easily, but at the same time they want us to protect them in their travels, so it’s the balance that we will find, but we will have more to say,” he said. he adds.
