Boxing
Tammara Thibeault left no doubt about her participation in the next Olympic Games in Paris. On Thursday, the Quebecer had to win her semi-final clash in the under 75 kg category against the Mexican Vanessa Ortiz to secure her ticket to Paris and that is what she did brilliantly with a 5-0 victory.
“I’m really happy to finally have my ticket to Paris,” commented the winner to the Canadian Olympic Committee. “It’s been a long year, a tough year, and we’ve all worked so hard to get here, so it takes a little pressure off me because now I just have to prepare for the Games and keep going to improve myself. I don’t really have words to explain how happy I am, but I think we are on the right path. »
The fighter from Shawinigan will meet Panamanian Atheyna Bibeichi Bylon in the grand final on Friday.
She was not the only one to secure her place at the Paris Olympic Games on Thursday. In the 63.5 kg category, Wyatt Sanford reached the final by winning 5-0 against Brazilian Yuri Falcao Dos Reis.
He will fight for a gold medal on Friday and will face Mexican Miguel Angel Martinez Ramirez.
Junior Petanqui suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Ecuador’s Jose Gabriel Rodriguez Tenorio in the 71 kg semi-final
Racquetball
Samuel Murray and Coby Iwaasa will leave Chile with the silver medal from the men’s team competition in their suitcases. On Thursday, the Canadians lost 2-0 in the final against Bolivia.
In the first match, Iwaasa sold his skin dearly in a 3-2 (7-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-7 and 13-11) defeat against Carlos Keller Vargas. Murray then lost 3-0 (11-5, 11-9 and 11-2), thereby canceling the doubles match which could have been played in the event of a tie.
Remember that the Canadians were also silver medalists in doubles earlier this week.
Shot
Yanka Vasileva and Audrey-Anne Le Sieur ranked 13e and 25e 10m air pistol qualifications. The score of the two shooters was not enough to secure a place in the top eight which were selected for the final presented later in the day.
