The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, was not singing this extraordinary song by Léo Ferré when she told us that over time, the sanctions would have an effect on Russia. A new round of sanctions is expected to be announced shortly. But, for the Ukrainians, wouldn’t the priority of priorities be that we first prevent bombs and missiles from being launched on the cities, today, tomorrow and always? One could well think later of preventing such an oligarch from sailing in a yacht on the Mediterranean or another from buying a condo in Manhattan. But it seems that at the moment the world seems rather resigned to the war in Ukraine continuing for a long time. Additional military equipment is promised and will arrive soon, or later. As things are going, the main effect of Western aid to Ukraine would probably be to lengthen its agony indefinitely. Finally, Mélanie Joly could have sung Ferré: “With time, go, everything goes away”.
