(Toronto) Ontario recorded more than 10,000 new daily cases of COVID-19 for the first time on Saturday, public health officials in the province reported.
The 10,412 new cases surpass the previous record of 9,571 cases which was set on Friday.
This is the third day in a row that the province has broken its record for the number of daily cases.
Ontario Public Health is also reporting four other deaths linked to the virus.
COVID-19 cases are on the rise in the province due to the highly transmissible variant Omicron.
Experts explained that the actual number of cases is likely much higher than those reported each day, as many public health units have reached their maximum testing capacity.
Meanwhile, the race to provide COVID-19 vaccine booster doses continues in Ontario as some clinics were open on Christmas Day.
