The number of new cases of COVID-19 continues to increase and reaches 259 in communities in the Far North of Quebec. On Sunday, 30 new people were diagnosed positively with the disease. The situation is “serious” and “worse than it has ever been in any region of Quebec since the start of the pandemic”, indicates the Regional Board of Health and Social Services of Nunavik (NRBHSS) in a press release.
The village of Salluit is currently the most affected, with 198 active cases for a population of 1,241 inhabitants. There are five active cases in Ivujivik, four in Kangiqsujuaq, 29 in Kangirsuk and 18 in Kuujjuaq. As of Sunday, five active cases have been confirmed in Akulivik, on the Hudson Bay coast. The community has been placed on the red tier. Non-essential public places, such as schools, are closed. A curfew is also in effect from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
In its press release, the NRBHSS recalls that COVID-19 “can be anywhere” and mentions that transmission “occurs here, within the region, in Nunavik. Not from the south to Nunavik ”.
Vigilance in Puvirnituq
All people who went to the CLSC / Nursing in Puvirnituq on November 3 or who consulted for physiotherapy on November 4 in Puvirnituq are also invited to be screened preventively. This community has no currently confirmed cases.
In its press release, the Régie mentions that “having a diagnosis of COVID-19 is stressful, and the community should show solidarity with the individuals who have developed this disease and support them as much as possible in their isolation”.
