Our river, a source of inspiration | The duty

Throughout the summer, The duty offers its readers, among other things, the Cap sur le Fleuve series.

Meanwhile, in Trois-Rivières, at the Pierre-Boucher Museum | art + history, you can see an exhibition that highlights a collection of a hundred paintings in Tribute to the St. Lawrence, acquired by the Port of Trois-Rivières, which wanted to make it accessible to the entire population. There it’s done. A beautiful historical coincidence, if we think that this collaboration occurs when the Port of Trois-Rivières and the Pierre-Boucher Museum are each celebrating their 140e anniversary.

As soon as you enter the Museum, you discover some of these inspiring works. The visit continues in the corridor where other works, sketches and photographs are exhibited. Finally, another room offers a documentary in which the artists tell us anecdotes of their journey. Historical documents and objects that bear witness to past activities at the Port of Trois-Rivières also contribute to creating a tangible link between art and history and add to the cachet of the exhibition.

The five Quebec painters (Robert Roy, Raymond Quenneville, Yvon St-Aubin, Gérard Boulanger and Yvon Lemieux) who started this project in 2016 went from Kingston to Gaspé. For five years, each, according to his own interpretation, using very personal techniques and styles, painted an atmosphere, a landscape, a nature, our river.

It’s worth the detour and it’s accessible for free this summer from Tuesday to Sunday afternoon.
