The MEP defended the pension reform and considered that it was above all a question of “reconciling France with work”.
“The pension reform, our great disappointment, is that it is done much too late”regrets Saturday June 4 on franceinfo François-Xavier Bellamy, MEP Les Républicains, while in an interview given to several regional daily press titles, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron announces that the text “will come into effect from the summer of 2023”. If the MEP recognizes that “our country needs” pension reform, “we have to do it now”he judges.
François-Xavier Bellamy also indicated that LR parliamentarians would support this reform: “Obviously, we must support everything that goes in the right direction”.
“Yes, the retirement age must be pushed back.”

For the MEP, this reform does not just deal with “the question of the balance of the pension scheme” but of “the absolutely fundamental question of the reconciliation of France with work”. He thus deplores the existence in the country “many French people who are of working age, who could be active, who could contribute to prosperity” and who do not because, according to him, the French system “discourages work”. “When you are of working age, the difference between being in work and being out of work is not that big in terms of income at the end”believes François-Xavier Bellamy.
