The federal government has awarded contracts worth up to $ 631 million to three companies for COVID-19 border testing and other testing services.
Public Services and Procurement Canada says Switch Health, LifeLabs and Dynacare are testing international travelers entering Canada at airports and land border crossings.
Ministry spokesman Gabriel Leboeuf said the companies provide comprehensive testing services, including appointment scheduling, test administration and results management.
Switch Health is responsible for testing services in Ontario, Alberta and the Maritimes with a contract worth up to $ 440 million. For its part, LifeLabs takes care of those in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and the Yukon with a contract worth up to 111 million. And Dynacare is responsible for testing in Quebec and Manitoba, with a contract worth up to $ 80 million.
Gabriel Leboeuf that they also provide additional testing support for temporary foreign workers, refugees, asylum seekers and international students.
He clarified that the amounts represent the total approved value of border testing contracts, but these amounts may not be fully spent as companies are paid for the services provided.
