The change comes amid growing fears of a Russian invasion.

According to the federal government, the Russian military present has increased since the fall. He advises Canadians in the area to consider leaving if their presence is not necessary, as the situation could deteriorate.

“Russian military action in Ukraine could disrupt travel and services across the country. It could also have serious repercussions on the embassy’s ability to provide consular services,” reads the notice posted on the Global Affairs Canada website.

Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly is due to fly to Kiev on Sunday to discuss the situation with Prime Minister Denys Chmyhal and Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanichyna.

She must also visit the approximately 200 Canadian soldiers on a training mission with the Ukrainian security forces.

The minister’s office said the purpose of the trip is to reaffirm Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
