(Ottawa) Global Affairs Canada is asking Canadians to avoid all travel to Israel and the West Bank due to the “unpredictable security situation” in the region.
Global Affairs Canada says there is an increased risk of attacks on Israeli territory, while tensions and violence are high in the West Bank.
One Palestinian was killed and 25 others injured Friday after dozens of angry Israeli settlers stormed into an Israeli-occupied West Bank village, shooting and burning homes and cars, according to Palestinian health officials.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, affirms that “the regional security situation remains very volatile and could worsen without warning.”
She says Canadians should consider leaving the region through commercial means.
The updated travel guidelines come less than two weeks after seven World Central Kitchen aid workers, including a Canadian, were killed by an Israeli airstrike while delivering food to the Gaza Strip.
