Oshawa riding | Veteran CCP MP Colin Carrie will not run in upcoming election

(Ottawa) Veteran federal Conservative MP Colin Carrie, who has represented Oshawa, Ontario, for 20 years, announced Thursday that he will not be a candidate in the next election.

Mr. Carrie was first elected in 2004 and has been re-elected six times since. He said Thursday it was time to pave the way for someone new to represent the community.

Last February, the House of Commons unanimously adopted a private member’s bill presented by Mr. Carrie.

This bill would ensure that victims of crime get more information about offenders’ temporary absences and their eventual release.

Mr. Carrie indicated Thursday that he will work very hard in the coming months to ensure that his bill is adopted in the Senate, which will begin studying it next week.

Within the governments of Stephen Harper, from 2006 to 2015, Mr. Carrie was in turn parliamentary secretary to the ministers of Industry, Health and the Environment.
