“The A69 construction site was the scene of damage last night” in Saïx, deplores the prefect of Tarn in a press release published Friday August 23. This was a coordinated attack by a group of hooded individuals, which began around 1:35 a.m. according to France Bleu Occitanie. Two small groups first threw stones at a construction zone. A third group threw Molotov cocktails at the pier of a bridge under construction, which caused a fire in the metal formwork of the structure, according to the concessionaire Atosca. The opponents “set fire to equipment used for the construction of a work of art”also explains the prefecture, which indicates that“a complaint has been filed”.
According to the prefecture, “the police and firefighters who intervened on the site were attacked”, with “throwing stones and Molotov cocktails”The firefighters were unable to put out the flames and returned around 8am on Friday morning. They left again around 10am. None of the security guards present on the site were injured, France Bleu reports.
According to Walter Guyonvarch, project manager at the manufacturer NGE, the consequences of this degradation are: “important” and the “Last month’s work is ruined with this fire”The future bridge should allow the current national road (RN 126) to pass over the future A69 motorway.
