Ontario | An investigation is opened into a 25-year-old man killed by a police officer

(Vaughan) An investigation was opened in Ontario on Monday after a York Regional Police Service officer fatally shot a 25-year-old man.

Officers were called to an event center in Vaughan around 11:50 p.m. Sunday after being alerted that a gunman was inside.

According to the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which is responsible for the case, there was interaction between the officers and the man, and one of the officers eventually shot the man.

The unit explains that the officers then administered first aid, and that paramedics took over a few moments later.

The man was later taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. His death was pronounced Monday morning.

Four investigators and two forensic scientists have been assigned to the case, while an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Police are asking anyone who may have useful information, in the form of video or photos, to contact the lead investigator.
