One of the perpetrators of the threats against the mayor of Romans-sur-Isère in Drôme was sentenced to eight months in prison with a committal warrant, reported Wednesday, December 6 in the evening France Bleu Drôme Ardèche. The individual – immediately incarcerated – was tried on Wednesday December 6 in immediate appearance for “malicious telephone calls” and “insulting by words or threats” against the elected official.

He was accused of having called Marie-Hélène Thoraval twice, on November 29, at the town hall, in order to intimidate her. The elected official claimed in particular to have been questioned about the presence of bodyguards around her and to have been treated as “facho”.

The man aged around thirty and originally from Pas-de-Calais, according to the Valence prosecutor, has already been sentenced to “more than 20 covers”. The reasons for these previous convictions are unknown. He was arrested in Marseille at the start of the week. In addition to eight months in prison, the individual was ordered to pay 500 euros in damages to the mayor of Romans-sur-Isère.

The elected official denounced “a lawless zone” in her city

On social networks, Marie-Hélène Thoraval writes: “Interview of the author of the calls to intimidate me”. She adds that the man was “convicted 23 times”before thanking the police for “its speed and efficiency” and justice for “its firmness”. She concludes by specifying that the author of the death threats on Instagram is not “not yet apprehended”.

On November 29, Marie-Hélène Thoraval filed a complaint after being threatened with death during the day via a private account on social networks. Threats while the elected Horizons had recently taken a position in television interviews following the death of Thomas, 16, killed in Crépol. The mayor had notably mentioned the La Monnaie district in Romans-sur-Isère, denouncing “a lawless zone” set up by young people. It is in this neighborhood that suspects in the Thomas murder case live. Ultra-right activists subsequently called for rallies, notably in Lyon and for a punitive expedition to Romans-sur-Isère, punctuated by clashes.

In its press release, the Valencia public prosecutor’s office confirms Wednesday December 6 that the threats targeting the elected official are “in connection with the disorders committed in Romans-sur-Isère after the criminal acts committed in Crépol”.
