One injured in fire at commercial building in Montreal

One person was injured Wednesday evening in a fire in a commercial building in the east of downtown Montreal.

Firefighters were called to respond around 6:35 p.m. on Sainte-Catherine Street, between Wolfe and Montcalm Streets, a few steps from the Beaudry metro station, due to a call reporting smoke.

Realizing the seriousness of the fire, the firefighters triggered a third alarm, bringing together some 90 firefighters to deal with the flames, said Robert Rousseau, section chief at the Montreal Fire Department.

One person was injured during the incident, confirmed the SIM without being able to comment on the exact circumstances. Neither firefighters nor paramedics could specify the severity of this person’s injuries early in the evening.

The cause of the fire was also unknown at the start of the evening, but firefighters believed that it was not likely to spread to neighboring buildings.
