The Russian military continued its slow push into eastern Ukraine, claiming control of two more villages in eastern Ukraine on Sunday, after capturing a third on Saturday.
In addition to Saturday’s Russian strikes on the city of Vilniansk, eight people were killed in 24 hours in villages in the Donetsk region in the east of the country, according to Ukrainian authorities, bringing the day’s death toll to 11. .
The Ukrainian military said on Saturday that Russia was continuing to attack the city of Toretsk, where it has launched an offensive in recent weeks, and that a battle was underway in the village of New York, near the front.
