Once Twice Melody, Beach House

Beach House has put all the gum on its eighth album in 18 years (already!) of existence. Since the classic shoegaze-pop feat Bloom (2012), Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally subtly refine their pen, but above all explore timbres and textures, softening the electric guitars in favor of opulent keyboard orchestrations, on increasingly electronic and hypnotic rhythms. Violin orchestrations are added for the first time, giving a different new luster to the beautiful laments, and above all a more lively sound dynamic than before. The chemistry between the placid timbre of Legrand, the strings and the vapors of synths is particularly successful over the long Super star and New Romance further, epic new wave ballad echoing in the captivating seven minutes of Over and Over which follows, right in the heart of the album. We certainly perceive some redundancies over these 85 minutes, which do not however spoil the pleasure of hearing these goldsmiths of cozy pop daring with new ideas.
