” Hello ! There’s nothing pretentious about taco restaurant Julio Taqueria on rue Saint-Vallier Ouest in Quebec City.

The welcome is friendly. The decoration is simple and colorful. The place even evokes the look of a canteen with its wooden tables arranged on either side of the room. But this address in the Old Capital, open since the end of 2020, fulfills its promise: it offers tasty and exotic Mexican-inspired cuisine that makes you want to taste everything.
We hesitate between the trio of gringa quesadillas garnished with pork and pineapple or the trio of meat and cilantro tacos. But why choose? You can take both! To whet your appetite, let yourself be tempted by the homemade taco chips served with freshly prepared guacamole, all accompanied by a grapefruit soft drink imported from Mexico. Nothing complicated, but full of sunshine. Co-owner Vincent Thuaud (Chez Tao, jjacques) explains that all dishes are gluten-free. Vegetarian options are also plentiful. On the table, the spicy sauce made with orange, serrano and habanero peppers, prepared by chef Damien Geoffroy, gives the meal a punch. A selection of Mexican wines would have added even more exoticism and surprise to the meal, but the short proposal from small Quebec and European producers does the job.

For dessert, the establishment offers churros, elongated donuts from Spain, served with a bowl of dulce de leche. Impossible not to lick your fingers.
