The World Health Organization judges “very high” the risk presented by the Omicron variant. The ministers of the health of the G7 met urgently on Monday, November 29, and the list of the number of countries where it is detected continues to grow.

Eight cases of the Omicron variant are suspected in France. For each positive case, a technical laboratory screening identifies the already known variants. For Omicron, you have to sequence the virus and read its DNA. The operation lasts three days. To avoid all spread, the government requires the isolation of contact cases of any suspicious person. France is, in fact, caught in the grip of countries already concerned such as Germany, Italy, Belgium and Spain.

In Portugal, 13 players from the Lisbon football team test positive. A player was returning from South Africa, where only a quarter of the population is vaccinated. “The problem will be solved primarily by vaccination, considers Professor Yves Coppieters, epidemiologist and professor of physical health. (…) As long as this circulation of the virus is important, we unfortunately offer a favorable ground for the mutation or the modification of the circulating strains. Several countries have closed their borders to travelers from southern Africa. The seven G7 health ministers, meeting Monday, November 29, found the variant Omicron highly transmissible, and called for urgent action.
