Olympique de Marseille is sanctioned with a match behind closed doors for its next Champions League match, after the incidents which occurred on September 13 at OM-Frankfurt, UEFA announced on Friday. There will be no spectators for the Matchday 3 group stage game against Sporting Portugal on October 4.
On September 13, many smoke bombs were observed between the parking lot of Eintracht Frankfurt and the north bend of the Stade Vélodrome. OM had lost at home to the Germans 1-0. The incidents that occurred on the sidelines of this meeting led UEFA to lift the stay of total behind closed doors which already hovered over the Marseille club following excesses on the sidelines of the semi-final of the Europa League last season, against Feyenoord rotterdam.

The north bend will also be closed when the English host Tottenham on November 1. The Marseillais will therefore be almost deprived of their spectators for these last two home matches.
For its part, Frankfurt was fined 45,000 euros and banned from selling tickets to its fans for the next away match, suspended, because of “racist behavior” and throwing pyrotechnic devices, says UEFA.
In addition, OGC Nice also suffered a match behind closed doors on October 13 for the reception of Slovacko in the Europa League Conference following the serious excesses that occurred during the reception of Cologne on September 8.
