Balmain’s artistic director was the guest and spoke in the presence of Nicola Sirkis, also present on the set. To the question about the explosion of his chimney and his injuries, Olivier answers: “It was extremely hard to wake up in the morning with your whole face burned.”
“It was awful. It was horrible in two ways… I was lucky to go to Saint-Louis Hospital and to have met incredible souls, nurses, a hospital system that supported me, not only physically but mentally. It was extremely hard to wake up in the morning with my whole face burned.“, he acknowledges, before discussing the mental aspect of the consequences of the accident.
Olivier Rousteing adds and concludes: “There was also the difficulty of being in fashion because imperfection is frowned upon. It made me anxious, I was very, very scared, I had to camouflage myself. And then I mostly had social networks because you claim a life that sometimes doesn’t exist. For a year, I was able to hide without necessarily feeling good. I wanted to heal in private, but with notoriety, I couldn’t completely erase myself either.“
