It has now been 10 months since French journalist Olivier Dubois was held hostage in Mali. He had been kidnapped in the city of Gao, when he was to interview the leader of a jihadist group. His wife, who lives in the capital Bamako, still hopes to find him.

Since moving to the Malian capital of Bamako in 2015 with her partner, French journalist Olivier Dubois, Déborah Al Hawi Al Masri has never considered leaving the country. Despite her husband’s abduction, she remained with their two children, certain that he would come home.

Left on a report on April 8, 2021, Olivier Dubois never returned. This independent journalist had traveled to the city of Gao to interview one of the leaders of a major jihadist group linked to Al-Qaeda. In Bamako, his partner has set up a support committee to deal with this long absence. The French and Malian authorities claim to make every effort to free Olivier Dubois, who is today the only French hostage in the world. No proof of life has been made public for nine months.
