Trends: old toys appeal to nostalgics and collectors

(France 3)

A few weeks before Christmas, the race for gifts is on. Old toys are popular, and not just for collectors. It is also an opportunity to make purchases at a lower cost, like in a toy exchange in Alsace.

Tons of old toys are on display in a village hall in Soultzmatt (Haut-Rhin), under the guilty gaze of fans and regulars. Some come from far away to find happiness in small toys. A Swissman looking for a rare piece traveled more than 1 hour 30 minutes. According to a customer, old toys have especially “a certain charm“.

Sharing between colleagues

Legos, fire trucks, or even pots and dolls… Everything is brought together with, initially, a common interest in these small objects. “First of all, it’s a passion. I wanted to share this passion with friends of miniatures”entrusts Yves Ridon, president of the Alsace Rétro Locomotion association. This sharing between colleagues became the International Miniature and Old Toy Exchange in 2017. For its fifth edition, 101 tables were set up, and 41 collectors were invited.
