To highlight the 100and birthday of René Lévesque, the museum institution of Quebec, in association with the René-Lévesque Foundation, seeks to gather objects which could be integrated into an exhibition presented next November.

For this exhibition, which will paint an intimate portrait of the former journalist and Premier of Quebec who died in 1987, the presentation will be articulated around archival documents and significant objects. However, “apart from his political action, very few material witnesses or documents associated with his childhood, his adolescence and his young adult life remain”, can we read on the press release sent to the media by the Museum .

Until April 14, the Musée de la civilization is therefore launching a call for contributions intended for the general public in order to collect objects, documents, artistic works or material memories related to the life of René Lévesque. These could be retained to constitute the corpus of the exhibition.

“We are looking for objects and archives that have been little or not disseminated, with a strong evocative emotional potential, which will allow us to remember, or to discover, this man who contributed to shaping our society in his own way”, explained Stéphan La Roche, President -General Director of the Museum of Civilization.

Certain periods are of particular interest to the curators of the exhibition, notably René Lévesque’s birth and childhood in New Carlisle, his life as a young adult in Quebec, his missions as a war correspondent, his career in journalism and his political career.
