NWSL | Christine Sinclair remains with the Thorns in 2022

Canadian team captain Christine Sinclair has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Portland Thorns, with an option for the 2023 season.

The 38-year-old BC forward, who helped Canada win Olympic gold in Tokyo last summer, said last week she was committed to playing the next two seasons with Portland and Canada, with a view to the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Sinclair is the world’s top scorer with 188 in 308 games for Canada.

“We are delighted to count on Christine again. She has made it clear that she still wants to stay with us, Portland club general manager Karina LeBlanc, who played with Sinclair with the Thorns and for Canada, said in a statement.

“Christine brings a lot to the team and the community. She is exactly what a Thorns player should be. »

Sinclair is in his 10and year with Portland, where she also played for the University of Portland Pilots.

Sinclair helped the Thorns win the NWSL title in 2013 and 2017.

The Burnaby athlete leads the club with 54 goals, 143 games played and 12,404 minutes in the field.

In 2021 Sinclair appeared in 15 games for Portland, scoring five goals.

Canada, Germany, England and Spain will take part in the inaugural Arnold Clark Cup next month in England.
