Not a day goes by without a school, a municipality or a state committing to planting trees to save the planet or bring freshness to cities. The demand is so strong that nursery growers can no longer keep up.
Thousands of trees still growing will soon be found in our cities. In a nursery in Jarcieu (Isère), more than 60% of the trees are sold to communities. In recent years, orders have increased by 25%. The trees are therefore delivered after eight years compared to 12 usually. The plantings are also tighter: 2,000 additional trees were able to be planted this year. “By gaining 50 centimeters, we maintain a real spacing and we gain almost 15% on a plot“explain Pierre de Prémare, director of the Guillot-Bourne nurseries in Jarcieu (Isère).
A nursery in town
In Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis), an experiment is underway. Around ten trees were placed in a street last year. “This allows the temperature to be lowered by a few degrees during heatwaves.“, agrees Patrice Bessac, mayor of Montreuil. The city has created its own tree reserve. Trees are chosen with different species to ensure biodiversity in the city. This year, more than 1,000 trees will be planted.
