Retention bonuses for nurses which were to end on September 30 have been extended until October 15, according to the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec (FIQ). The union, in negotiations with the government, denounced the cessation of these before the renewal of the collective agreement.
Questioned on this subject, the press secretary of the President of the Treasury Board, Sonia Label, replied that no comments will be made on this subject “today”. At a press conference Monday morning, the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, recalled that these retention bonuses have been extended for three years.
“Right now, I think the debate that Mme Lebel [la présidente du Conseil du Trésor] is doing with his team is to say “can we put the question of salaries aside for a few more weeks, but let’s talk about the organization of work”,” indicated Minister Christian Dubé . According to him, this is “probably” the “biggest challenge” in current collective agreements.
According to the FIQ, nurses affected by the end of these bonuses “will lose up to 7.5% on the evening shift, 6% on the night shift, as well as 3.5% for employees working on the day shift”.
