Nunavik | Hit and run causing the death of a 5-year-old boy in Inukjuak

A 5-year-old boy died after being struck by a woman driving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in Inukjuak, Nunavik, on Tuesday. The driver, who fled the scene of the accident, was arrested.

Tilly Echalook-Paulosie, 45, appeared Thursday morning to face charges of hit and run causing death and dangerous driving causing death, said Capt. Patrice Abel of the Nunavik Police Service ( SPN).

The accident occurred around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday in Inukjuak, a northern village of some 1,800 people located on Hudson Bay. Mme Echalook-Paulosie hit the child on an ATV and the latter died instantly, according to the SPN agent.

The suspect left the scene before being arrested and then questioned by SPN investigators. She remained detained “until the next stage of the legal process,” said Captain Abel.
