Novak Djokovic not vaccinated against Covid: why can he participate in Roland-Garros?

It is a case that has shaken the world of tennis and even far beyond at the start of the year. As the Australian Open, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments, approaches, Novak Djokovic walked forward confident and sure of himself when he arrived at Melbourne airport. Unfortunately for the Serb, he was at the heart of a veritable imbroglio which lasted several days before the authorities decided to expel him from the country. The reason ? The 35-year-old tennis player was not vaccinated against Covid and did not present the correct papers to return to Australian territory.

A few months later, the health situation seems to have calmed down in France and the rules for entering the territory have been revised downwards since March 14. From now on, you no longer need a valid vaccination pass to have access to certain places such as sports facilities, including Roland-Garros. Excellent news for Novak Djokovic who can therefore participate quite normally in the Parisian tournament, as recalled by the director of the tournament, Amélie Mauresmo. “As things stand, nothing stands in the way of Djokovic’s participation at Roland-Garros”she said on March 16 during a press conference.

No more restrictions and on the side of the French Tennis Federation (FFT), the message is clear. “We don’t have to know anyone’s vaccination status. to authorize or deny access to our site and our event”, specifies the instance with Liberation. A condition that applies to all players since“no player benefits from any special regime whatsoever within the framework of the tournament”.

The clash Djokovic-Nadal will take place

A clear position which therefore allows Novak Djokovic to participate without any problem in the Parisian tournament. Arrived in great shape, he managed a perfect start, not losing a set so far, but the match which promises tonight against his great rival Rafael Nadal should book a very nice show!
