Nottingham Tournament | A first career final for Katie Boulter

(Nottingham) England’s Katie Boulter beat compatriot Heather Watson 6-4, 7-5 in Nottingham on Saturday to reach her first career WTA final.

Boulter was 0-4 in the quarterfinals before a 6-3, 7-5 breakthrough at the expense of Harriet Dart, also of England.

Boulter continued in the same vein on Saturday, winning in straight sets for the fourth time in as many games at Nottingham.

She erased a 4-1 deficit in the second set.

Aged 26, Boulter is the highest ranked Briton in women’s tennis, in 126e position.

Her rival in the final on Sunday will be another compatriot, Jodie Burrage (131e). This dismissed Alizé Cornet 7-5, 7-5.

It will be the first all-English final since 1977 in San Francisco, when Virginia Wade beat Sue Barker.
